BLUE

Blue has a special place in art and it is thought to be the favourite colour for most people. The blue gemstone lapis lazuli has been highly prized for thousands of years, but blue is also associated with sea and sky, which could explain why blue holds a special place for us. Perhaps it conjures up something deeper and soulful as in the ‘blue note’ of Jazz and Blues?

I only know for sure, that when I decide on a blue palette for my paintings, it feels like a special indulgence, a permission to escape into a calmer, serener world and I hope that just a little of that feeling finds its way into the paintings.

My new little paintings are intended to be like ’snapshots’ – a single moment captured, but unlike camera images, I have reimagined and stylised 4 separate views and infused them with shades of deep, serene blue.
